Forza Horizon 5 PlayStation: Test Driver Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Test Driver in Forza Horizon 5 is the only Horizon Story that spans all five Expedition outposts — 15 chapters organised into five sets of 3, each set themed around its outpost's race discipline, unlocking one set at a time as each Expedition is completed.

It's also the only story with six distinct challenge formats across its chapters, making it the most varied Horizon Story in the game. All 15 Test Driver chapter locations are documented on our complete Forza Horizon 5 Mexico map.

Unlocks Incrementally: Five Expeditions Required

Test Driver chapters appear only after their corresponding outpost is built:

• Horizon Baja chapters (3) → after the Baja Expedition
• Horizon Rush chapters (3) → after the Canyon Expedition
• Horizon Street Scene chapters (3) → after the Guanajuato Expedition
• Horizon Apex chapters (3) → after the Tulum Expedition
• Horizon Wilds chapters (3) → after the Jungle Expedition

No other Horizon Story has this incremental unlock structure — all other stories appear in full once their single unlock condition is met. Test Driver cannot be fully completed until all five Expeditions are done.

Six Challenge Types: The Full Breakdown

Test Driver is the only Horizon Story that uses every challenge format in the game across its 15 chapters:

• Time-based (8 chapters): Sand Trek (3:10), Harsh Conditions (1:35), Canyon Cruise (5:20), City Sights (2:25), Shortcuts Galore (1:15), East Coast Paradise (2:35), Into the Jungle (5:05), Surface Battle (1:10).

• Score-based, 120,000 PTS (3 chapters): Got the Baja Skills?, Stunt Master, Arena De Fiesta — all requiring skill chains, near misses, and speed maintenance through the scoring section.

• Distance jump (1 chapter): High Jump — 3 Stars: 1,510 FT / 460.2 M. The tallest required jump in any Horizon Story.

• Speed zone (1 chapter): Speeding Frenzy — 3 Stars: 122 MPH / 196.3 km/h maintained through the marked section.

• Near miss (1 chapter): Coast to Coast — 3 Stars: 28 near misses. The most unusual 3-star target in any Horizon Story — thread the car past 28 pieces of traffic and obstacles without full contact to reach the target.

• Time survival (1 chapter): Off the Beaten Trail — 3 Stars: finish with more than 5 seconds remaining. Instead of an absolute time target, this chapter measures how much time buffer is left at the finish line.

Each Set Reflects Its Outpost's Discipline

• Horizon Baja = Cross Country: off-road trail, skill score through terrain, timed desert run
• Horizon Rush = PR Stunts: canyon cruise (time), stunt score (skill), big jump (distance)
• Horizon Street Scene = Street Racing: city tour (time), speed zone (122 MPH), shortcut time trial (1:15)
• Horizon Apex = Road Racing: coastal drive (time), skill score, near miss chain (28)
• Horizon Wilds = Dirt Racing: jungle trail (time), survival with 5-second buffer, surface battle (1:10)

Cover to Cover: Test Driver Qualifies but Isn't Recommended

"Cover to Cover" (Bronze, 14.5% completion) — earn 3 stars on all chapters in a single Horizon Story.

Test Driver's 15 chapters technically qualify, but the near miss challenge (28 near misses in Coast to Coast) and six different challenge format switches make it significantly harder to 3-star than Born Fast (8 chapters, mostly time-based) or Lucha De Carreteras (8 chapters, mostly time-based with generous windows).

For Cover to Cover, Born Fast is the recommended single-story route — save Test Driver for a dedicated completion sweep.
